Principal, Scenario Insight
Jonathan Star is a workshop designer and facilitator, specializing in scenario planning. He learned the tradecraft of scenarios, design, and facilitation at Global Business Network (GBN), a pioneering consulting and membership organization. Over the last 20 years he has facilitated hundreds of scenario and strategy consulting engagements, dealing with issues as diverse as climate change, cyber security, US politics, consumer trends, and the future of work. Star now runs his own independent practice, Scenario Insight. He designed and taught numerous scenario training seminars, including leading and overseeing GBN’s flagship course, Developing and Using Scenarios. He has lectured at the University of California at Berkeley, where he taught on a master in data science degree, and has published articles on the value of scenario planning in adapting to climate change. Earlier in his career, Star worked in public policy in the UK. He was director of research at Scottish Enterprise, where he helped establish a Strategic Futures Team, an early example of an organization using trends research, foresight, and scenarios to help influence policy and strategy. He holds degrees in business economics from the University of Nottingham and the University of Warwick in the UK.
