Brian C.B. Barnes has committed his life to standing beside African-American youth and communities in the journey to secure a strong present and future in America through education. Barnes’s professional experience includes a number of roles in Boston Public Schools—teaching middle school mathematics, serving as the school leader of a pilot middle school academy, and launching and coordinating the district’s schools and faith-based partnerships component of Boston’s Circle of Promise collective impact initiative. He has also served as a director of youth programs and faith-based ministries, leadership coach of aspiring and new principals, strategic advisor to a large urban network superintendent, and consultant and presenter to various nonprofit and educational organizations such as TNTP and New Leaders. Barnes’s professional experience includes frequent speaking and presentation engagements, and he has taught courses and modules. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Morehouse College, with a minor in secondary education from Spelman College; a master of divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School; and both a master and doctorate degree in education leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Barnes is married to the lovely Keishana Barnes, and is the father of two beautiful children, one son and one daughter, and he and his wife welcomed a new addition in June 2016.
